Make it Snappy Tools 5/16″ Tapered Plug Cutter

Recently I purchased 8 plug cutters for only slightly more than this single 5/16″ Snappy Plug Cutter. (2 types in 4 sizes not including 5/16″ – Rocaris 8pcs Wood Plug Cutter Drill Bit Set Straight and Tapered Taper 5/8″ 1/2″ 3/8″ 1/4″ Cutting Tool Cork Drill Bit Knife). None of them were usable as shipped. I had to deburr and sharpen the one I needed, but I expected that after reading the reviews and luckily I am able to do it. Also (included in the reviews), they were metric rather than the fractional sizes in the description. In the process of sharpening it, I changed the plug size slightly anyway. For the nine 5/8″ plugs I needed, it worked out fine – I thought.For the same project, I decided to make wood pulls for the 18 doors it would need. I wanted to include some ebony in the handles so I decided to add plugs to them. Turned out 1/4″ was too small and 3/8″ too big so I needed a 5/16″ plug cutter. Since the 1/4″ cutter I just bought was really 6mm (and a POS) I tried to grind it to 5/16. Getting all four “teeth” on the bit ground the same proved too challenging. After wasting a lot of time I gave up and ordered this snappy 5/16 plug cutter.What a difference! When I removed it from it’s plastic case (instead of loose in a plastic bag with 7 other cutters) it was beautiful, sharp, and ready to use. You can see what’s left of the ebony after getting the plugs I needed. No problem cutting into the edges of previous holes to save a little ebony. Never had to re-clamp the ebony. The plugs are tapered perfectly so the top end (as cut) goes in easily and the bottom snugs up just slightly above the surface. Couldn’t be more satisfied.The Rocaris plug cutters are going in the trash and the next time I need one, I will be buying it from Snappy Tools!
