45.5mm Coffee Distributor and Tamper, Double Sided Coffee Leveler Compatible with Flair Pro and Flair Pro 2, Adjustable Depth – Professional Espresso Hand Tamper

I bought this to use to tamp a 51mm espresso cup with a dosing funnel and a wide-mouth canning funnel installed, I needed a tamp with a long “neck”, and a smaller diameter than 48mm. This was the only one I found that fit the bill, at 45.5mm. It’s a little small, but accomplishes the main purpose.The whole assembly (espresso grounds cup, dosing funnel and canning funnel) was so I could pour the ground beans directly from the grinder into the cup without any spillage on the counter. I use this tamp at full extension to set the grounds in the cup before I remove the funnels, and then I do the final tamp on the cup itself before installing it in the espresso maker. Since it’s not quite the right diameter for final tamping for MY machine (great through the funnels, but not without them), I’ve got a different tamper for that.The cool thing about this tamp is that one side (tamper) can be set to one precise depth, and the other side (beveled “spreader”), can be set to another “precise depth”, so you have the ability to insure even compression of the grounds within the cup, before (or after) you tamp it exactly as you want it. You can experiment with this unit endlessly if you wish. Once you find the “perfect depth” for desired compression of the grounds (either distribution or tamping), lock it and there you have it forever.It’s solid metal, machined and polished, has some heft to it, and the tamps are threaded, with large knurled adjustment collars to lock the depth setting in place – “infinite adjustment” between the minimum and maximum depth limits or 1-16mm (0.04 inches to .63 inches) for each tamper.Better still, since it’s metal, my dosing funnel which is magnetized, slips over one tamp, and stays there when not in use!What more can you want? (For me, one tamp at 47.5mm, the other at 51mm, but that’s for how I’m using it, which is not what it’s designed for – which is about as perfect for that as you’re going to find.)
