I’ve only owned this unit a week but first impressions are very good. The unit is very low profile and nice looking. The BD picture quality is fantastic. The remote is full-featured and logically arranged although a few of the menu keys in the middle will require a little experimentation on your part to see what they actually do since their function differs depending on whether you are watching a disc or using the Internet apps. In some cases you may not use them at all.Setup was a snap and the integrated wi-fi performance has not disappointed. I cannot speak for all BD players but in general I believe it to be a misconception that a player needs to be hardwired for its Internet features to work well. That may be the case for first gen products that offered these services but with today’s units if you have a reliable and reasonably fast DSL or cable modem Internet connection and a router that is properly configured your wireless experience should be just fine.A couple of comments on the preloaded Internet apps..Netflix: This was our #2 priority behind integrated wi-fi. I’ve seen others complain about the Netflix app on this player and the inability to search but personally that doesn’t bother me and will most likely be addressed with a future code upgrade. The app does what it’s supposed to do just fine. The main genre categories are positioned horizontally across the top and you just use the remote to navigate through them. When you find your genre just down arrow and you get your movie listing. The movies themselves stream beautifully and the quality is very good. Just as an example I streamed National Lampoons Christmas Vacation over the holidays and it actually looked better than the DVD version. May just be my imagination but it was comforting to know that the quality was there.Pay Per View: There are two PPV apps preloaded…Vudu and CinemaNow. I haven’t used either yet but Vudu seems to have a greater selection (plus they throw in a free movie). Both services offer a combination of free content and PPV at the typical $3.99 SD/$4.99 HD rate. Vudu also offers a $5.99 HDX version of some movies which they stream in true 1080p. Both apps are easy to navigate so your choice basically comes down to preference.Pandora/YouTube/Picasa: These apps are very nice and operate basically the same way as their browser-based cousins. If you already have accounts on any of these sites you just use the remote to login and all your playlists, albums, etc will be there waiting for you. You can also create an account thru the player on most of these apps which is a nice feature. There are a couple of other apps preloaded as well but they held no interest for me so I won’t comment. Your mileage will vary.Overall this appears to be a quality unit at a very nice price point. Definitely recommend.
