Having to discard (I took it to Best Buy for free recycling) my 2nd Toshiba all-region DVD player (both players tend to “freeze up” over time) I wanted to see what was available on Amazon in the way of another all-region player. This model (I belived it was modified) came up and I remembered that standard DVDs can be played on a Blu-ray disc player, but not the reverse. I took a leap of faith and ordered the BP220 via an Amazon marketplace seller (considering there were no reviews for this player it really was a leap of faith!). I received it on time, it was easy to connect to my Sony Home Theatre system, and the images are amazing. What I was somewhat “bent-outta-shape-about” was the fact that no owner’s manual or registration document was in the box. There was a “simple menu” (over-sized and multi-fold) in the box, but I want my owner’s manual! I called LG’s customer service number (in Thailand perhaps??) and spoke to two different men (on two successive days) who both told me they attempted three separate times (!) to e-mail me the manual, and to check my mail boxes and junk mail, because the manual was on it’s way! Never got it.I went on LG’s website and couldn’t pull up a manual – but I was later informed that I entered the info incorrectly on the website. I printed it out and was very happy to have it because whatever you purchase usually includes a manual and you are advised to read the manual before using the product!!! (This policy is a growing “pet-peeve” of mine in that too many manufacturers believe everyone has a computer and/or smartphone, etc. and thereby, feel they can save a little money by not providing manuals. (I’m renting a Toyota Carolla while my Camry is in for repairs and there was no manual in the car. I was told that if I put my smartphone over the code on the driver’s window, I could obtain a manual that way! Ex-scuu-se me, but I don’t have a smartphone, and I question whether manufacturers are attempting to save trees … or are they just cheap?!?) Never assume your customers have all the latest electronic toys! If manufacturers insist on listing on the cover page of manuals that the documentation should be read before you use the product (using the product incorrectly could void the limited warranty, etc.) THEN THEY SHOULD PROVIDE MANUALS! (I registered the player by phone, but if you don’t receive any registration documentation you can register on-line.)So, as of this writing and having owned this LG (Life’s Good) BP220 Network Blu-Ray/DVD/All-Region player since May 18th when it was delivered, I have no complaints and would most definitely recommend it!
